Exploring youth engagement in a digital age

Yep it's official according to a Neilson report just out. But search 'Teens Don't Twitter" in Twitter. It's number one in the Twitter trends today and full of people, including young people ironically enough, talking about it.

Interesting food for thought especially for all who attended the Twitter session recently at Connected Generation.

YPs are so fickle!!! My friend, an early adopter with teenage children, got fed up of having to reject friend-requests from his kids friends. He'd already decided it wasn't fair to be Facebook-friends with his kids. Their friends loved the idea of someone's dad being on MySpace/Facebook. Obviously, as long as it wasn't their own...

There were some great comments to our blog post exploring why we don't think teens are into twitter back in March of this year : http://bit.ly/HkgCq - great to see the data backing up what we suspected/knew.

Agreed Mas on the move away from social networks (simply due to the fact it's being populated by an older demographic - my Dad recently added me on Facebook and can imagine for the younger crowd out there how not cool that is.

I don't get why this is in any way a big deal? There was something similar a few weeks back about twitter not being a good medium for reaching out to the young unemployed - well who'd have thought?!

Only (vaguely) slightly more interesting is the articles that young people are also dropping off social networks although the interesting aspect is really that old(er) people are freaking out about it.
