This is a total rabble about our information society in which I give my opinion on how we are failing to get a grasp a hold of a youth culture being a 'market' or 'product' that goes 'hand in hand' with the nature of business, service provision an...

I have worked within a couple of communities in which antisocial behaviour was high on the agenda. They were issued with Dispersal Orders and the impact of Policing was frightening. The challenge was to promote positive activities and youth forum ...

With a new computer and a positive attitude to developing youth work online I appreciate your advice and hope that I gain a better understanding quicker. I think that maybe the slideshow doesn't offend Keynote users and its something worth develop...

Unlike yourself I'm just making use of the stuff that I do and it would be interesting to see what you offer. Can you back up your criticism with some evidence of some positive youth work and engaging face to face activities?

thanks for sharing Kieran - honestly not wanting to put a downer on your efforts but maybe ease off on the effects in the future - making keynote look like powerpoint is close to criminal ;-) It would be useful to have some context too - its hard...

Cheers for the reply, Kieran. I will be adding to the forums and discussions in due course. NEETs bring their own challenges when it comes to digital inclusion, but the potential is there to try and turn things around. The somewhat overused 'it's about the people, not the tech' really comes into play here (although I argue it's about both!). Like you say, communication is vital and I see a chance to dip in to the current online mood of collaboration, openness and sharing to help boost engagement and progression. It's how we use the tools to form the links and communicate, alongside that face to face interaction. Mentoring? Hell, yes...

Regarding your last point, technology can and does raise awareness. What's required, at least, is an acknowledgment that online social activity can make a difference offline. We're now at a stage of exploring existing networks and experimenting with new ones.

Are we allowed to do this because we don't currently have to tick boxes? quite possibly ;)

Participation Works

The training is great and in reality the 'process' and 'impact' is something that I would be consider towards promoting youth forum work. Can we recognise the benefits of putting training into practice and identify workable solutions that are productive and/or improves performance?
