As you well know, the use of technology for engaging young people is particularly relevant. A recent survey of 46 councils found that 65% agreed social networking sites had a vital role to play in in encouraging civic participation but just 33% of councils were using on-line networking tools to engage youth.
Tragically, most were using Facebook in a bid to get young people on-side when Bebo is by far the most popular side for 8-17yr olds.
Perhaps there is some research out there on young peoples technology trends and habits?
...there are definitely some project ideas emerging in this area. What do you know about mobile phone use in schools? Is it allowed?

Perhaps we should get a sub-group set up here on the Youth Work Online ning to focus down onto Participation themes - as there is definitely a lot to explore in how we make the most of new tech for youth participation...
