Youth Work Online was started in 2008 by
Tim Davies as part of a research project looking at
Youth Work & Social Networking.
It developed when it was used as the network to host the first digital youth work unConference in September 2008, and since then has been growing as a space for youth sector professionals, volunteers and researchers to share news, ideas, questions and resources linked to the digital dimensions of work with young people. A second unConference was held in July 2009.
The network is run on the Ning.com platform, and Practical Participation Ltd cover the costs of removing adverts from the network and maintaining it on it's own YouthWorkOnline.org.uk domain name. At present it is moderated by
Tim Davies, though with the goal that it will eventually be run by members of the youth work community.
Membership
Membership of the network is free, and open to anyone with an interest in digital dimensions of work with young people. Membership is moderated, and you will need to provide a brief description of your interest in the digital dimensions of work with young people in order for your membership to be approved. We do not have any hard-and-fast rules, but two principles are useful:
- You are encouraged to contribute actively and generously to discussions;
- Promotion of commercial services and events is discouraged, unless there is a clear link to digital youth work, and the messages promoting such services or events add value beyond being a mere advertisement;
Questions
