RESEARCH REPORT ON YOUTH CLUBS AND ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Hi I was wondering if any of you may have some information for my research project at uni. Im currently researching information for my research report, I have chosen a tricky subject and therefore am finding it difficult to find previous studies, the title of my report is 'do youth clubs: increase or prevent anti social behaviour, and how does it impact their education'.

If any of you guys know of any useful websites or even better know any sources for facts and figures for this area I would HUGELY GREATLY appreciate you help.

Hi Amanda,

I am writing a similar report for my uni course. The title of my report is : 'does youth work have a role to play in tackling anti-social behaviour'. I have only just started researching it and also finding it difficult. I thought maybe we could use this thread to exchange studies which each other might find useful. What do you think?

Hi thanks Diane for that. Il be sure to email her, to see if she had any ideas.

And Mark yeah that would be cool. My handin is next week, ha, so Im doing everything at last minute. I attempted to have a go at the first draft of my lit review yesterday. I found alot of research on youth and crime. A little on youth clubs do prevent antisocial behaviour and like 1 piece going against youth clubs.

But what was interesting I found a few articles stating how 'good' youth workers were really needed for teenagers/young people, because of having that role model they are more willing to listen.... therefore I suppose it will have a knock on effect on thier education....then a knock on effect on antisocial behaviour etc. (You probably knew that already because your doing a youth work degree (Im doing education studies) but Id just thought Id mention it just incase.

I have quite a few articles from and book stuff, so if you want I can more or less email you my bibliography, alot of my sources are from the internet :).

Another thought for you, is consider looking at the www.infed.org website and read some of the articles on great thinkers. Putman looks at buiding social capital, freire and gramsci look at informal education as being transformational, therefore applying their thinkings, you could possibly argue from this angle?

I have worked within a couple of communities in which antisocial behaviour was high on the agenda. They were issued with Dispersal Orders and the impact of Policing was frightening. The challenge was to promote positive activities and youth forum work to engage 'problem youth'. I carried out some small scale research to address New Labours Respect Plan and the observations were fairly obvious in regards to the causes of the problem. Unfortunately, my experience is that the bigger problem is blamed on the minority to scapegoat the job in hand!
